Three Years Ago…

Tomorrow marks the third anniversary of me starting my transition leave from the Army. On March 3rd, 2005 I spent the day finishing the packing of my house and loading up the Penske truck. At midnight (on the fourth) I signed out on leave and a few hours later I was on the road.

I always figured I’d have a hard time adjusting to not being in the Army. The truth is, it really was pretty easy. However, I still think about the Army on a daily basis. Especially my time in Afghanistan and Iraq. While every soldier endures a personal hell when sent to war, I am blessed to have remained relatively lucky. I came home with all of my body parts (minus one tooth), and don’t have any holes in me that weren’t there before I left.

Anyway, as I was saying. This week marks the third year of my non-arminess (uh…), and it also marks the third year anniversary working for the company that I work for…amazing how time flies.

Speaking of time, if you’ve got 10 minutes that you’re not using, watch this video. It’s pretty amazing. It shows a lot of footage from the 101st during Operation Iraqi Freedom I. At the end they list some of the names of soldiers who died. The first two, MAJ Stone (USAF) and Captain Seifert (US Army) were killed during the events I wrote about a few days ago…the one about how it all started.

I’m glad you got out, but I’m sure you learned more than you’ll ever realize about yourself and humanity in general.
